Is Magnesium the Missing Link to Your Strength Gains?

What is Magnesium


Magnesium is one of the most essential minerals to have in our everyday nutrition. It is important for bone structure in the entire body. It also helps with proper function of the body's: 

  • Nerves

  • Muscle’s 

  • Stomach acid and move the stool through the intestine

  • Heartburn 

  • In extreme situations with pregnancy complications with preeclampsia.  


How does it affect strength?


The Adenosine Triphosphate system also known as ATP, depends on magnesium for proper function. Which is to be the main energy currency to the cells. Magnesium helps the body produce more of an insulin like growth factor which lead to long term muscle growth and strength. Also some bonus functions magnesium contributes to is:

  • Muscle flexibility 

  • Sleep and stress management from the serotonin levels 

  • Preserves proper PH balance  

  • Prevents diseases like diabetes and strokes 


More than Greens 


Usually foods high in fiber have high amounts of magnesium as well. You can find these in any green leafy foods like broccoli and spinach. Other foods include:

  • Legumes

  • Whole Grains 

  • Squash 

  • Seeds and Nuts 

  • Meats 

  • Dairy Products

  • Dark Chocolate

  • Avocado

Water with a high amount of mineral content is a good source as well. 


Not End All Be All, but Close 


A proper well balanced nutrition is important for overall health. Just when you think your getting enough of your essential nutrients, think again. It all has a purpose, especially from magnesium.That just might be that missing link your missing to break out of that plateau and get stronger. Just stick to the daily recommended dose or under which is 350mg. Better off sticking to natural forms of magnesium from natural food not supplements unless instructed by a doctor. Everyone's different.
